„Without a collective agreement on chemicals, the regulations would also be worse in the non-tariff sector. The increase in holiday pay and the payment of the inflation allowance to non-tariff employees have not simply fallen from the sky.“

Volker Diehl, vice-chairman of the works council and chairman of the shop stewards

Holiday pay

It's vacation time again. The increased costs also do not stop at holiday trips. The one-off payment at the end of June comes just at the right time. Only slightly less than half of all private sector employees receive holiday pay in Germany (source: Hans Böckler Foundation). Employees in collective bargaining companies often benefit from the special payment. In the chemical and paper industries, for example, they receive a holiday allowance of 1,200 euros per year, which has doubled since 2019. This is also the case with Boehringer Ingelheim. In addition, after negotiations between the works council and the employer, the regulation was extended to non-tariff employees. As a result of the collective agreement on chemical products, non-tariff employees will also receive €1,200 in holiday pay with the payment of salary in June.

Inflationary money

Under the Chemical Collective Agreement agreed in autumn 2022, employees in the collective bargaining sector receive the so-called inflation allowance of 3,000 euros. The payment is split between January 2023 and January 2024 and amounts to 1,500 euros net. Non-tariff employees in the Boehringer Ingelheim company also receive these payments as a result of negotiations.

Payment

The current Chemistry Collective Agreement provides for a pay increase of 3.25% in January 2023 and a further increase of 3.25% in January 2024. This also increases the initial non-tariff value. Thus, although the salary of each non-tariff employee does not directly increase, it definitely forms the basis of the non-tariff salary structure and leads to an overall increase in salaries.
